SAN MATEO COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK CELEBRATES HEALTHY EATING AND ACTIVE LIVING
San Mateo, CA—The San Mateo County Health Services Agency is celebrating National Public Health Week April 7-12. This year's theme is "Getting in Shape for the Future: Healthy Eating and Active Living."
Approximately two-thirds of all American adults are overweight or obese, and the proportion of children who are overweight has tripled since 1980. This epidemic is not limited to any particular age, race, ethnic group or gender. These national statistics are comparable to those of San Mateo County's population.
According to Dr. Sam Stebbins, Deputy Health Officer, the keys to successful activity and exercise are as follows:
- Pick something fun that you want to do on a regular basis.
- Don't link exercise and weight loss—Even if you never lose a pound, a more active day will improve your mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
