Safety Fair for kids and parents set on May 11
"Use Your Head... Be Safe and Healthy" will be the theme of the Health and Safety Fair the San Mateo County Childhood Injury Prevention Collaborative will present from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, in the west parking lot of the San Mateo County Health Services Agency, 225 37th Ave., San Mateo.
The free educational event, which is open to the public, will offer many interactive activities for children and their parents as well as entertainment.
Representatives of the San Mateo Fire Department who will teach Stop, Drop and Roll drills, and the DARE officer of Belmont Police Department will be on hand to talk to kids about drugs. An ambulance will be open for visits, and fingerprinting and face painting will be offered.
Infant and children's car seats will be inspected since statistics indicate that four out of every five car seats are improperly installed. Other topics will be the use of 911 and poison control. San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol and the YMCA will send representatives, and gun locks will be distributed.
The collaborative includes the Health Services Agency, Human Services Agency and Sheriff's Office, San Mateo County; SAFEKIDS; CHP; California Poison Control; Kaiser Permanente, Health Plan of San Mateo, Samaritan House Family Center, Amtrak, police departments of Foster City, Belmont and Daly City; fire departments of Daly City, Menlo Park and San Bruno; California Department of Social Services; and the Childhood Abuse Prevention Council.
