Margaret Taylor to testify on early childhood development at Senate hearing
"The Child's Brain: Wider Than the Sky" will be the topic of a California State Senate hearing March 11 that will feature Margaret Taylor, director of San Mateo County Health Services, as a speaker. She will discuss the positive outcomes of the county's Prenatal to Three Initiative.
The hearing, which will seek to apply the science of early childhood development to public policy, will include two panels. The first, "From Neurons to Neighborhoods," will focus on current early childhood development research and will include experts from universities across the country.
The second panel, offering policy implications of the research, will include Taylor, who also is a member of the San Mateo County Children and Families First Commission; Rob Reiner, chair of the California Children and Families Commission; and Assemblywoman Dion Aroner, chair of the Human Services Committee of the California Assembly.
The hearing is sponsored by State Sen. Dierdre Alpert of the Senate Select Committee on Family, Child and Youth Development; and Assemblywoman Wilma Chan of the Assembly Select Committee on California Children's School Readiness and Health. Co-sponsors will be Assemblywoman Virginia Strom-Martin of the Assembly Education Committee and State Sen. John Vasconcellos of the Senate Education Committee.
