Hotline to gather transportation concerns in San Mateo County
Transportation is the essential link that binds San Mateo County together, and yet many county residents fall through the cracks because of various mobility barriers: The 73-year-old Chinese woman in Daly City who would be able to use the SamTrans bus if only she could understand the schedule; the farm laborer in Pescadero who starts work before the first bus arrives from Half Moon Bay; or the senior in Woodside who can no longer drive because of poor eye sight but is too far from a bus route.
These residents, and the many others who are underserved by public transportation, are invited to voice their concerns on a toll-free Mobility for All hotline: 1-866-802-1613. The hotline will give and receive messages in English, Spanish and Mandarin. The hearing impaired or deaf are invited to use a toll-free TDD number: 1-800-994-6166.
SamTrans is joining San Mateo County's Aging and Adult Services, the only agency statewide to receive a grant specifically addressing the transportation needs of the underserved, to sponsor this hotline. The grant, from the California Department of Aging Long-Term Care Innovation Grant Program, will fund the development of a Strategic Plan for Accessible Transportation Services in San Mateo County, which will be a valuable tool in the solicitation of additional funds for expanding transportation options in the county.
