Coastside Shuttle Goes "Over the Hill"
County Human Services Agency Reaches Out to Coastside Residents
Belmont - The County of San Mateo Human Services Agency announced today that the Coastside Shuttle which formally served only the coast will now take riders "over the hill" to PeninsulaWorks, the county's one stop job connection, at 550 Quarry Road, San Carlos. This new service is a monumental leap for the transportation deprived coastal area.
Last year, in conjunction with the Metropolitan Transportation Agency (MTC), the Human Services Agency completed a survey on the transportation needs of low-income families in San Mateo County. Since bus services from Half Moon Bay came on a limited basis, challenges were identified including long commutes of up to three hours to the nearest Human Services Agency office.
The expanded Coastside Shuttle service is available to all residents of Half Moon Bay, El Granada, Princeton, Moss Beach and Montara. To reserve a ride, participants can just simply call the Coastside Opportunity Center, a non-profit community agency, during business hours at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a ride from the coast to PeninsulaWorks San Carlos. The Coastside Shuttle service is available Monday through Friday with pick-ups from 7:30 to 8 a.m. arriving at PeninsulaWorks San Carlos at 9 a.m. On the return trip, residents will be picked up at PeninsulaWorks San Carlos at 4 p.m. Cost for the Coastside Shuttle service is $2 one-way, $4 round trip.
The Coastside Shuttle service allows coastside residents access to social services that include employment services, financial assistance, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, housing assistance, Children and Family Services, health insurance, alcohol and other drug services, and many other services at PeninsulaWorks.
The Coastside Shuttle service is a joint effort between the County of San Mateo Human Services Agency, the Coastside Opportunity Center, and the Peninsula Traffic Congestion Relief Alliance. For more information call the Coastside Opportunity Center, at 650-726-9071 or Cheryl Deocampo, Mobility/Transportation Coordinator, Human Services Agency, at 650-802-6542.
