LISA MANCINI NAMED AGING AND ADULT SERVICES DIRECTOR

San Mateo, CA--San Mateo County Health Services Agency Director Margaret Taylor is pleased to announce that Lisa Mancini has been appointed Director of the Aging and Adult Services Division, effective September 29, 2003. Mancini replaces Charlene Silva who is retiring after a distinguished 14-year career with the county.

AAS provides programs designed to prevent out-of-home placements of the elderly and younger adults with disabilities. Programs include the Public Guardian, In Home Support Services (IHSS), centralized intake and referral, assessment and consultation, protective and supportive services and care coordination. The division serves as the Area Agency on Aging and is advised by the Commission on Aging and the Commission on Disabilities.

"Lisa has been a tremendous asset to the division, and I am proud of all that she has accomplished. It is a real gift to me to leave this organization in such capable hands. I am confident that she and the leadership team will continue the great tradition of doing the best for the people we serve by doing the best for those who serve," Silva commented.

Mancini has many years of San Mateo County experience in both direct services and management, and has a strong commitment to providing the highest quality of care for adults with disabilities and seniors. She began her career with AAS as a Deputy Public Guardian in 1987, and over the next 15 years, worked with every program in the division. "I have worked directly in all the complexities of Aging and Adult Services and believe that this uniquely qualifies me for the position of director," said Mancini. "Beyond my technical and work experience, I bring a passion for providing quality services to those who are most in need in our county-the elderly, the abused, the underserved, and the mentally ill."

In addition to her professional career in public service, Mancini and her husband, Mike, devote many hours to community service in the Redwood City area. Mancini is a member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) and dedicates time to help the homeless through the Interfaith Hospitality Network and the Winter Shelter Network. Much of Mancini's community work is done through her church, Redeemer Lutheran, in Redwood City.

Interestingly, Mancini's grandfather founded the Redeemer Lutheran Church over 70 years ago, and she attended elementary school at Redeemer Lutheran School, where her husband is now principal. After graduating from Sequoia High School, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Fresno, and a Master of Arts degree from Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont.

Taylor will introduce Mancini to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors on September 9 during the regularly scheduled board meeting. She describes Mancini as a success story who started as a summer intern and went on to more responsible jobs, while furthering her education. "Lisa is proof that succession planning does work," said Taylor.
